QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What's the significance of the name "Wayfarer"?

The name came originally from a simple need to change emails.

When Wifeness and I moved to where we are now, we had to drop the addresses we'd been using for the last several years. We talked about what we should change them to, and we decided that the basic idea should be reflective of the things we valued, both individually and as a couple. We talked about how we both loved to travel, and that we felt like a sense of adventure and a willingness to discover characterized both our individual personalities and our marriage. We agreed that the thing that made globetrekking truly wonderful was the feeling of coming home and, since we'd moved here to settle down and dig roots, we wanted an identity that communicated our belief that one should always have a place to come home to.

What is Wayfarer House?

It's where I live, of course, but truly, it's more than that.

You can find a good answer to this question at the Q & A section of the Wayfarer House blog.

My wife and I are moving slowly and steadily forward in starting a community school.

THINGS TO KNOW

I identify strongly with being an educator. Teaching and learning are the truest expression of "right livelihood" for me, and I am grateful every day being paid to do them.

I have a long list of interests, too, that I value because they center around the two things I enjoy most—discovery and sharing, not necessarily because I’m good at them.

I’m not intimidating on purpose. I just have a strong and clear sense of who I am and why I’m here. It’s the most wonderful feeling to have, and I feel like everyone deserves it.

I’m not complex. I’m easy to read and I don’t have the time or the patience for personality games.

I like to dig deep into the serious things, but I’m not afraid to do so with a spoon stuck on my nose.

My life is both mundane and spectacular, and no, that’s not a paradox.

I have rules. I like rules. Rules are good. Rules are also made to be broken, when appropriate.

I swear, mostly for effect. I say “F***!!” sometimes just because it feels good, but I don’t use the word “stupid”.

I appreciate the mystery of the universe, and I do not need to know how it all works. Frankly, it’s nice to be surprised.
